This year, BISTER mustard is celebrating its 90th anniversary.
Of course you all know those lovely decorated glass jars containing mustard which have been sold in our supermarkets for decades, but did you know that this mustard is made right here on our doorstep?
BISTER mustard was created around 100 years ago in our Walloon region, to tantalize our tastebuds! As souvenirs of childhood, the jars take pride of place in our cupboards and delight children with their diminutive format and lovely designs. I remember when I was little, I asked my Mum to buy the mustard just for the jar, but the mustard itself is also great for children and goes really well with a sausage as a snack.. (and still does 25 years later..).
However this year, to celebrate their anniversary, Bister has chosen a very Belgian icon to represent the product.. Who better than Peyo and the Smurfs to grace the new jars?
BISTER don't only make mustard, they also make a large range of condiments including oil and vinegars..
It's possible to visit the mustard factory and discover all the different taste sensations by contacting them, or by going directly to the factory! I highly recommend this visit, which teaches a lot about our heritage and will delight both young and old! Information is available here.
Enjoy your meal!
