Immersion in the Heart of the Emirati Market: An Unforgettable Experience in Dubai

As part of our third year in marketing, we had the privilege of representing Skylane Optics, a Belgian company specializing in optical solutions for telecommunications, during a stay in the United Arab Emirates. This one-month mission, with a particularly intense week in Dubai, was made possible thanks to the support of AWEX (Explort), EPHEC, and Skylane Optics.

A First Step into the Technological Universe of Gitex

Upon our arrival at Gitex, the world's largest technology fair, we were immediately immersed in a whirlwind of innovations and opportunities. The vastness of the exhibition, the diversity of exhibitors, and the concentration of decision-makers quickly made us realize the stakes involved.

Interactions with salespeople, company executives, engineers, and even political figures provided us with a concrete understanding of the needs of the Emirati market. We closely observed trends in connectivity, digital infrastructure, and technological innovation, understanding how Skylane Optics could fit into this landscape.

A Foray into the Heart of Emirati Innovation

In parallel, we explored another aspect of local dynamism by attending a fair dedicated to startups and new technologies. This was an opportunity to confront emerging concepts and engage with passionate entrepreneurs from around the world presenting their solutions in blockchain, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

These discussions allowed us to gauge the vitality of the market and the fierce competition that prevails. Each startup we met embodied a bold vision, an ambition for rapid growth, and an admirable adaptability.

Beyond the Exhibitions: A Deep Understanding of the Market

Our immersion extended beyond booths and conferences. We had the opportunity to visit DHL, where we gained a better understanding of the logistical challenges related to trade in the Emirates. Exploring free zones, customs regulations, and import-export strategies enlightened us on how companies optimize their presence in this strategic region.

A highlight of our stay was meeting the Belgian ambassador, who provided valuable insights into the economic and cultural relations between Belgium and the Emirates. He guided us on the subtleties of the local market, the expectations of Emirati partners, and the codes to respect in professional exchanges.

An Experience Rich in Lessons

This journey was more than just an academic mission. It allowed us to sharpen our skills in market analysis, negotiation, and business strategy, immersing us in an environment where responsiveness and interpersonal skills are essential.

The hectic pace of this week taught us that success relies as much on preparation as on boldness. The contacts established, knowledge acquired, and experiences lived will have a lasting impact on our vision of international trade and the telecommunications sector.
